In the story, "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings", the majority of charcters seem to be religious, except Pelayo and Elisenda. When Pelayo and Elisenda first spotted the old man, they thought he was just a lonely castaway from some foreign ship wreck. This proves they do not really believe in angels or religion. They also tried to send him away and did not care much for him until they realized they could make profit off him. On the other hand, the characters in the story seem to be extremely religious judging by the way they all pay and wait endlessly to meet the angel. Despite the mistreatment they gave the angel, they viewed the him to be on a higher social status and could answer the questions to all their problems. This proves they have strong dedication and belief in religion. In addition, when the old man was recently found, no scientists were notified since science was not as important as religion to this society of religious people during this time.

In the story "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings", a critical lens that can be used is Marxist Criticism for example at first Pelayo and Elisenda were very poor they had crabs all over their house. However once they met the old man in with the wings the man became very popular and was visited a lot.Later on they decided to charge money for the people who wanted to see the man.

In the short story "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings" by Gabriel García Marquez, there is a use of a cultural lense. Most of character me are ignorant towards religious beliefs. Some of the characters Believe the engine was a mythical creature, some believed it was a religious angel. Father Gonzaga believed the old man to be impersonating an angel.

In the story, "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings", by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, gender roles/norms seem to be the same as the ones in our world. An obvious example of this is the author's choice of main character. Although the narrator speaks in 3rd person point-of-view, it mostly focuses on Pelayo. Marquez very well could have chosen to focus on Elisenda, Pelayo's wife, but he did not. The reason for this is because, even though Marquez was in part raised by many aunts, he lived in a misogynistic society. This would cause him to internalize misogyny, even if he was not sexist himself. This caused Marquez to focus his story on "the man of the house", ignorant of issues concerning the importance of female representation in media. Examples of people conforming to gender roles are present throughout the story. For example, Pelayo was the one to throw away the crabs infesting the house in place of Elisenda, who was putting compresses on her sick child - "the man goes to work, while the woman stays home and takes care of the child". However, by paragraph 7, Elisenda gets the idea of charging people to see the "angel". This idea, or even having an idea at all, is an example of Elisenda not conforming to traditional gender roles at the time that this book was written. In much of traditional literature written by men, women are portrayed as a kind of supporting role to a male character. Elisenda, on the other hand, is portrayed as a character capable of having ideas independent from the influence of a male role.

I see that the tale shows of a Marxist criticism because both characters; Pelayo and Elisenda both are struggling with a ill baby. Their property shows with that the family has no money for a doctor and that they live in a small town gives an impression of their poverty. Throughout the story, with this old man with wings, because of the attention it reviewed they took advantage of it and charged people. I can conclude that near the conclusion the family does not struggle as they used to since the baby isn't mentioned as sick

A great critical lens in the story "A Very Old man with Enormous Wings" is psychological criticism because of the way they treated the old man. If the angel didn't save the child's life they would've killed them angel. They somewhat appreciated the fact that the angel saved their child's life, and also they used the angel to make some money, and they ended up making enough money to build a mansion.

In the beginning of the story, Pelayo and Elisenda definitely belonged in the lower-class category. Their home was filled with crabs and Gabriel Garcia Marquez makes it clear that they were struggling. Luckily for them, the angel comes to cure the baby to rid them of their problems but is soon held in captivity. Unlike Elisenda and Pelayo, the angel does not benefit from any of this. Once Elisenda gets an idea that she can profit off of the angel, things start coming into play.

In the story "The Very Old Man With Enormous Wings" the lens I see being used is Marxist criticism. I chose this lens because Pelayo and Elisenda show signs of them struggling economically. They have a baby that is ill but can't afford a doctor to see the baby. The story makes them look poor and desperate for money. When the man with wings comes in they treat him poorly and take advantage of him. They realize he cured the baby and has more powers so they make a profit off him. At the end they made money off the man and they weren't so poor anymore.

In the story "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings", a critical lens that is shown in here is Marxist criticism. It is shown that both Pelayo and Elisenda are both struggling with how they live. They all have crabs all over there house, and they are living with an ill baby who is near death. They are considered poor to society, until the angel comes down. Once the angel was on their property, they kept him and took advantage of the attention he was getting and they charged everyone to view him, thus gaining money and money with each passing bystander. At the end of the story, both Pelayo and Elisenda were living with a whole ton of money and they were now considered rich.

In the story, " A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings", the author, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, uses critical lenses to describe the story. One of the main critical lenes he used shown in the story was marxist criticism. In the beginning of the story, Pelayo and Elisenda were struggling dramatically in their lives. Their new born baby was feeling sick and was nearly about to die. They were also considered financially unstable and unwealthy because they were not able to afford a doctor to take care of the baby. When Pelayo and Elisenda end up finding the old man with wings, they immediately started to take advantage of him. They treated him poorly and realized that he was able to cure their baby. The old man with wings started to grab nearby nieghbors' attention. Pelayo and Elisenda thought of an idea to start making profit off of the old man by charging people money for viewing him They soon started making a lot of money and were becoming tired of taking care of the old man. At the end of the story, both Pelayo and Elisenda became what was considered incredibly rich and wealthy, leaving the old man decrepit and barely even able to use his wings to arrive back where he came from.

The characters are very religious. They were quick to assume that the old man was an angel. They even paid to meet the old man because they thought that he was an angel. Some also plucked his feathers so that they can have good luck or to heal their bodies.

In "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings", a lot of the characters seem to be religious but do not act like it. The angel appears most likely after they are praying for a miracle yet they do not treat him as a religious person would. They do not comfort him, do not welcome him into their home, and do not act very nice for most of the story. Instead they profit off of him, push him out of their home, and let others hurt him. They seem to believe in a higher being ,but they took advantage of that higher being in a sense. They were pretty mean besides the fact they spared his life and fed him when needed. That is the complete opposite of how a religious people would act toward a angel.

The characters in " A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings" aren't religious. The story makes it seem as if the characters are religious at some times, but most of the actions that the characters do in the story doesn't make them religious. Most of the actions from the characters in the story are unkind and cruel to the old man. The neighbor woman and other characters in the story believed that the very old man with enormous wings was an angel. This makes the readers believe that the characters in the story are religious. The characters in the story didn't seem to be religious because they took the angel for granted. The characters harm the angel, they use him to get money, and find ways to get rid of him. The way the angel had been treated, wasn't really the actions of religion.

In the Story 'A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings' the characters are religious. But sometimes in the story they act like they aren't. Their actions in the story are being unsympathetic, and vicious to the old man. They didn't welcome the angel or greet the angel promptly. In fact they took advantage of him. They fed him when needed, threw him out of the house sometimes, used him to get money, and treated him harshly. these actions prove that an religious person would do the complete opposite and would treat the angel with respect..

in the story "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings", the characters may seem religious but don't act in a religious manor towards the angel. They believe that the angel is here to take the baby. The neighbor woman suggest that they kill him but they put him it the coop. The way they treated him was unbelievable, they put him in the small coop, branded him, threw things at him, they use him to get money, and find ways to get rid of him. The characters even the priest in the story didn't seem to be religious because they took the angel for granted. The angel's treatment wasn't how religion would treat him.

But they treat the old man they believe to be an angle poorly. They use him to get money, suggest killing him, and let others hurt him. A religious person would never treat someone that way.

From the story, "The old man with Enormous Wings", one critical lense that can be applied to this story is Marxist Criticism. From the beginning of the story, Pelayo and Elisenda are financially unstable however, once they meet the old man they eventually receive the idea to turn the old man into a circus act for money. In addition, before they made the old man into a circus act, they had no money for a doctor to visit their sick child. This later changes throughout the story as they are able to afford a doctor and a beautiful home to live in. Pelayo and Elsienda could possibly be in the upper class due to the fact that they are able to afford a doctor and have a lovely home. From the story, it provides clear examples as in what social class Pelayo and Elisenda are shown to not be a able to afford a doctor for their child however, this changes as they turn the old man into a circus act and use the money for their needs.

A lens that can be applied in "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings" is Psychological Criticism because of the reasons they perform their actions in the story. They did not kill the old man because they felt like he saved their baby. This happened because they felt the need to be thankful for him. Another example of psychological criticism is how their economic status drives them to use the old man as a way to earn a profit. If they didn't need the money they wouldn't have used the old man as a money source.

"A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings", by Gabriel Marquez, starts out with a couple, Elisenda and Pelayo with a sick child. Elisenda and Pelayo were poor and they stumbled upon an old man with wings in their yard. The neighbor woman thinks that he could have been an angel. Elisenda had an idea to make full use of this angel by setting him up as a circus attraction. Elisenda started charging admission to people who wanted to see the angel. Before the angel fell in their yard, they were in a lower class and needed money. In the end of the story, Elisenda and Pelayo were in the upper class and bought a new home because of the angel.

In the beginning of the story a couple pelayo and elisenda were very poor at first so they couldn't do anything for the baby, but at first they thought it was the crabs that caused it. Later on the spider woman came and took all the attention so the angle was left in the chicken coop and the couple get a doctor for the child and gets all healthy.

In the story, "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings," the author talks that the old man had wings, changed the lives of Pelayo and Elisenda during the future. This is basically based on marxist criticism because at the beginning of the story the author tell us that the baby is slowly dying, but what he didn't tell us was that the family didn't have the money to take the baby to the doctor. The old man brought them luck or faith to them so they can have a better life. Now since the baby is healthy, the old man decided to leave, and fly away from the courtyard.

Religion in "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" is twisted. To start off, what is considered normal in the story is completely and utterly crazy compared to real life. Due to this, their behavior toward angles are different. Characters in the story aren't shocked or religious as one would think. The angel is treated as a nuisance and only has the opportunity to live because he helped a child. Religion in this story is not really shown, therefore it does not really play a huge role in the characters' life.

In the story "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings," the critical lens I felt best applied was Marxist Criticism. In the beginning of the story a couple who's names were Pelayo and Elisenda start out as a very poor couple who didn't even have enough money to contact a doctor to take a look at their baby who was ill. As the story goes on a very old man with wings appears into their lives at first they believed he was a lonely castaway from a foreign ship wreck. They later talk to their neighbor and she corrects them by telling them he is an angel. When this angel first appears into their life, the couple's baby becomes healthy again and the weather that was always bad then improved. Soon the nieghborhood knew about the angel and came by to see him for themselves, this gave Elisenda an idea to charge the people who came to see this angel. This led their financial status to rise. At the end of the story Elisenda and Pelayo have become wealthy. In the story it states they own a mansion and their baby had become ill again and this time they had enough money to contact a doctor. They started as low class family and made it up to be a high class family.

In the story "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings", the best critical lense I can go with is Marxist criticism. At first, they had a shabby house with crabs flooding it. It seemed like they couldn't afford medicine for their sick child, so they had to wait it through. The lack of wealth made them be placed in the low class. But as the angel came, they had no clue of the idea of an angel. Once they realized he was the center of attention, they thought they could make money out of them. They earned very much money with their low prices, just because of every display they had. At the end of the story, they had became wealthy and owned a mansion.

In the story "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings " by Gabriel Garcia Marquez a critical lense than can be applied is Marxist Criticism. This lense can be applied because from reading this story I can infer that Elisenda and Peliyo are indegent because they couldnt even afford a doctor for their ill newborn child. Later on Pelayo finds a very old man, lying face down in mud. The couple concludes thst he is just a " lonely castaway from some foreign ship wrecked by the storm". But then they ask their neighbor for her opinion and she tells them that he is an angel. Then while seeing the whole neighborhood having fun with the angel Elisanda comes up with the idea to fence their yard and charge 5 cents for addmision to see the angel. They were making a ton of money off the angel and within a week they had "crammed their rooms with money". This definitely changed there wealth and social class. In the beggining of the story they were most definitely lower class and by the end they were probably in the upper middle class.

In the story, A very old man with enormous wings, was Marxist criticism because of the wealth and power both Elisenda and Pelayo had on the angel. When they first found the angel they threw him in the chiclen coop using him as bate for money after they noticed that the baby got better and crabs left their homes. Drawing in money and torturing the angel was a example of the powerful and the powerless. Once Elisenda and Pelayo became wealthy they noticed the angel was too much work and let him free. Wealth and power were all they needed.

In the story "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" has cultural criticism because this story does talk about religion. Although thet dont really talk about it upfront they do question if an old man with wings is an angel. The reason why they debate if the old man is angel is because if his appearance. They find him dressed somewhat as a homeless man and in the bible angels are supposed to be perfect. Also in they story they say that the language of God is Latin and when they talked to the old man he did not speak Latin at all. With these two things they were not convinced thst the old man with Enormous wing is an angel. Also they said that angels have healing powers and that he saved the child in the beginning from dieing. This may be true and give the reason into why he showed up in the first place but when people of the town showed up to see if they can be "healed" they instead get worse. For example a blind man gets 3 new teeth and this does prove he has somewhat powers.

In the story "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings," you can see how Marxist criticism is applied. In the beginning of the story, the family had an exaggerated amount of crabs in their home and it is probably because that was their main source of profit. They were also not very known by the citizens in their area.Almost in the middle of the story, the couple begins to charge people to see the angel and that helps them stack up some money. They also meet much more new people and this helps them rise up in their social class.

The critical lense that best applies to "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" is cultural criticism. Religion is not a very big part in each characters life, but it is present in the story. However, it is different from how we view it. In Catholicism, they view angels as a high being. In the story, they treated him terribly. They threw things at him and kept him in a chicken coop. In our world, we would treat him with the utmost respect and view him as a miracle from God.

They have crabs roaming their home. When the angel arrives, he sends them an indirect blessing, he brings wealth into their life. They charge admission to see this angel. This story can be viewed through a Marxist lens. In the beginning Pelayo and Elisenda live in ruins. With no money to aid their sick child they can only rely on home remedies that give no result. A lack of wealth is prominent however it changes vastly throughout the story with the help of the “angel.” Pelayo and Elisenda are most likely in the lower class. In the story it was mentioned that their home got filled with crabs during the winter and they also couldn’t afford a doctor for their child. It was only after they charged money for admission to see the angel that they could afford to fix their home and a doctor for the child.

Cultural Criticism plays a big role throughout the story. When the old man first enters Pelayo's and Elisenda's life they notice he has wings. They begin to wonder where he came from and first thought he was a foreigner. Than they trust the word of their neighbor woman that tells them he is an angel that has ccme to take their sick baby. Then first thing in the morning the priest came to examine the angel to see if he was a true messenger of god. This conveyys how religion is always being enforced in the story. Instead of a scientist or government official coming to take the old man away, the first person that comes to evaluate him is a priest. Further into the story good things begin to happen. Bad weather goes away, Pelayo's and Elisenda's baby's fever is cured. They think the Angel is the cause of it. The people in the village begin to think this angel can perform miracles and make a big line at Pelayo's and Elisenda's life so this benefits them so they charged people for every visit. This shows how religion was sought to be very important in the character's lives and their village, and how it affected Pelayo's and Elisenda's life.

In the story "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" a poor couple is met with a supposed angel. Elisenda and Pelayo had found a dying baby along the shore with an old and battered man who had enormous vulture-like wings on his back. After discussing with the neighbor woman, she had concluded that the old man was an angel. And coincidentally the baby regained its health after the old man arrived. More people were interested in the man when word spread and they found he was an angel. Elisenda and Pelayo thought that they could make a profit out of the people's interest and charged for every visitor. They were poor and they had crabs all over their house, so they were motivated to cash in on the "angel." Even the crippled towns folk visited the angel, tore off his wing, and tried to heal themselves. They wanted to be better again and wanted their health. They continued to beat and batter the angel so he would rise and fix all their problems because they believed he was a real angel.

In the story "A Very Old Man with Enourmous Wings" the Marxist lens was found. In the beginning of the story, they didn't have much money. Then throughout the story they were making money because people were paying to watch the angel.

In the story "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" the critical lens is obviously Marxist because Pelayo and Elisendra mentioned in the story that they have crabs in there house , have a baby ill with no doctor to afford so they can cure the baby. The story is trying to say they are poor and need money . So an angel comes by and cures the baby , so they try to use the angel to help them get better and get money . What social class they are in is all the way on the bottom , poor.

In the story "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" everyone is okay with the appearance of an angel. The neighbor lady said something about a spiritual conspiracy. This indicates that everyone is okay with religious and knows that there's a God. Its just the way Pelayo and Elisenda react. They put the angel inside a chicken coop and let him rot there while they make profit. (Cultural Criticism)

In the story "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" marxist crisiticism is applied because Pelayo and Elisenda were living in poor conditions with a sick child until an angel came, cured the baby, and got money off of him by charging people that wanted to see the angel.

In the story "A very old man with enormous wings" by Gabriel Marquez a critical lense that can be applied to this is cultural criticism. Example of this is the religion in the area. People really didn't care what a doctor had to say. They only care about what Father Gonzaga had to say. They even send an emergency letter to the pope.

It was cultural because it was the religion and didn't care about the doctor and they weren't religious

In the story "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" you can clearly see cultural criticism plays a big role throughout the story. Pelayo and Elisenda show some Catholicism in the beginning of the story. They been wanting a miracle since their child got sick. These two believe when they need to, when they need help from a religious miracle. Through the story a new character is introduced, Father Gonzaga. He concludes that the old is not an angel but an impostor. He also mentions the language of God and the the Pope.
