When Taking Notes Ask yourself the Following:
1-Out of the pages I have read so far, what information is important to the understanding of the story?
2- Where (meaning on what pages) can this information be found on?
3- What literary devices are being used? Give examples.
4- What lenses can be used in the reading of this chapter?
5- What quotes resonate (stay with/sound important) to you? why?
6- What extra insight did the teacher provide for this chapter?
TIPS:
-Make sure your notes are correctly labeled (i.e do they have a heading? a date? is your name on them?
-Make sure they are neat and organized.
-Use bullet points, highlighters or different color pens to accentuate (make stand out) important information.
-Write them in such a way that it doesn't feel like you are reading pages from the book, again. (You don't always have to use complete sentences in your notes and shorthand, as well as, abbreviations are acceptable)
-Remember the ultimate goal of taking good notes in the first place is to avoid having to scour (really search) your text for information again.
